Thai Buddhas

Thailand is an enchanting place, with an atmosphere of elegance and relaxation that strikes the heart of every traveler here.  There is a gracious, natural beauty everywhere that the eye can see, and always a sense that there is so much more than meets the eye.  Mysterious and tropical, Thailand has an image in the tourist imagination that is often misleading, but the real Thailand is even more fascinating than the mythical one.  There is an interesting mix of cultures and languages in the larger cities, making for many possibilities in rich urban adventures.  There is a lot to see and do here, and for 5 star hotels, Thailand has some spectacular offerings.

Rich in comfort and luxury, our hotels offer you the chance to rejuvenate and refresh at the end of every day, so you can enjoy the adventures of the following day.  Following an idea in the works of art than are on display in gallery windows can lead in many compelling directions, and that’s actually true for all of Thailand.  One idea will lead to a thousand others, and it is endlessly revealing itself, and endlessly evolving.  One way of showing an example here is to look at images of the Buddha in Thai art.  Buddhism came here directly from contact with traders from India in the first century, and the first images were large, representational icons in the Gupta tradition.  The next phase, in the 9th century, invokes the pantheon in the Mahayaha tradition, and there is more stylization in the figures.

Around the 13th century, the Theraveda tradition came to Thailand, and we see a greater abstraction in the figures, and more gold is in use.  In the Ayutthaya period, beginning in the 14th century, gold and jewels become more prominent, and there is more stylization.  The Ayutthaya Buddha figures are the more iconic styles that represent the Thai Buddha in the world at large.  Looking at Buddhist art from around the world, we can see a great variation, and Thailand has very specific styles that each refer to different periods in the evolution of the tradition.  It’s one way to begin to understand place, and every artifact can reveal a history that is worth further exploration.

Recognizing the Symptoms of Drug Use

Despite the increase of warnings and education about drug use in recent years, it is still a huge problem.  Thousands of young Americans each year try drugs for the first time and become addicted.  While the list of reasons is infinite, there are several tell-tale signs you can look for if you suspect someone you love is using drugs.

Although some of the signs may vary depending of the drug used, this list, compiled by the American Council for Drug Education, includes several of the physical symptoms: loss of appetite; change in eating habits; unexplained weight gain; slowed walk; poor physical coordination; insomnia; red, watery eyes; unusual pupil size; blank stare; cold, sweaty palms; shaking, tremors; extreme over activity; runny nose; hacking cough;, needle marks on arms, legs or bottoms of feet; nausea, vomiting; puffy face; extreme blushing or paleness; and irregular heartbeat.

Physical changes are not the only signs to be watching for.  There are several behavioral changes to notice as well, including drop in grades, change in attitude or personality, change in friends, change in hobbies/interests, loss of interest in family, lack of motivation/energy, oversensitivity, moodiness, irritability, excessive desire for privacy, secretive behavior, stealing, care accidents, paranoia,  chronic dishonesty, unexplained need for money or stealing, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

If you recognize these symptoms in a loved one, don’t feel discouraged, there is hope.  The important thing is to act quickly.  The sooner the addiction is dealt with, the better the chance of a full recovery.  One of the first steps is locating an addiction treatment center that will meet the specific needs of your loved one; what types of addiction treatment or dual diagnosis treatment do they offer?  After gathering all of the family and friends, you will want to stage an alcohol drug intervention.  Once in treatment provide a loving support system, the road to recovery is not easy but the destination is well worth it.

Old Madrid

Ah Spain, once again. We always have a great time when we visit Spain. Te people there are friendly and welcoming, funny and personable. Weather we are in the big cities of Barcelona or Madrid or exploring more remote areas along the north coast and visiting small towns we have always had a great time and met wonderful people.

When visiting a five star hotels Spain make for great accommodation. I always like to find an old and historic property to stay in. A property with history has always had an appeal for me. I like thinking about what has happened there, who has come and gone and researching the history.

our last visit to Spain was in Madrid. We stayed at an old old hotel near the medieval section of Madrid where the roads are narrow and ancient and cars are not allowed. We spent many days walking the narrow winding streets, all laid out long before the advent of the auto and city planning. A good map and some knowledge of the area is essential as it is easy to get turned around and end up some where unelected in this part of Madrid. Much of this section of the city dates back many hundreds of years. The influence of the Moors in the architecture can be seen widely in the area.

We usually started the day with a strong cup of coffee and a pastry, then began out on foot heading deep into the oldest sections of Madrid. There we would stumble upon interesting cafes and resturaunts to have some lunch or snack in, interesting shops and boutiques to explore and lots and lots to see. Never lacking in things to do and explore we were very please to have taken this trip and the time to explore old Madrid.

Brisbane City of History

Brisbane is the capital of the state of Queensland in the country of Australia. There are about two million people living in Brisbane, Australia thus making Brisbane the third largest city in the country of Australia. Brisbane is built up on a low lying flood plane between the Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range of south eastern Queensland, Australia. The Brisbane river runs through this city. The indigenous people of this area called it Mian-jin meaning the place shaped as a spike. The name for Brisbane came from the noble man Sir Thomas Brisbane who was the govenor of New South Wales, Australia from 1821 to 1825. The first European settlement in Queensland was a penal colony established at Radcliff in 1824 some seven teen miles north of where Brisbane sits today. The settlement was soon abandoned and subsequently moved to the North Quay in the year 1825. Free settlement was allowed begining in the year 1842 and the state of Queensland was established as a separate colony from New South Wales in the year 1859.

Today Brisbae is a modern and bustling city built proudly on its past. There are many five star Brisbane hotels to pamper the traveler there. Brisbane is on the ocean making it an popular destination for Australians and folks from all over the world. Day or night there is always activity in Brisbane. If your looking for out doors stuff such as hiking, swimming, water skiing, boating and fishing or prefer luxurious dinners and exciting night life Brisbane has it all for the world traveler.

Our stay in Brisbane was an exciting mix of it all. Several days on the water skiing, snorkeling and deep sea fishing offset by a number of fun evenings filled with fine dining and amazing night life. Early mornings on the beach to see the sun rise was a favorite memory from this trip. Brisbane was a fun place to visit.

Pablo Casals Studied in Barcelona

Pablo Casals was one of the most famous and well respected cellists in the instrument’s history. He was born in December of 1876 in El Vendrell, Spain, which is located in the Catalonia region. He recorded many works for the cello and also acted as conductor on many occasions, though it is probably his interpretation and recording of the Bach Cello Suites that remains the most popular and beloved of his works by fans and other professionals.

Casals had an early introduction to music as his father was a choir master and organist for his church parish and he instructed the young Pablo in piano and organ, as well as violin. By the time he was four, Casals could play the violin, the piano and the flute. He didn’t hear the cello until he was eleven when a traveling group of musicians featured a cellist in their performance. Casals was immediately captivated and new this instrument would be his true life love. His mother took him to Barcelona and enrolled him in the Escola Municipal de Musica where he could formerly study the cello, music theory and piano. During his career, residents and tourists staying in the top Barcelona hotels had the opportunity to see this great musician perform.

He made quite and almost prodigious progress on his chosen instrument and by the time he was fourteen he gave his first public recital in Barcelona. Two years later he finished school and graduated with honors. Shortly after he entered the professional scene, Casals played at The Crystal Palace in London also at the Osborne House, which was Queen Victoria’s summer residence. His concert for the queen was accompanied by Ernest Walker. He went on to perform in venues across the world and for other famous people and political personalities, which includes a performance for the US president Theodore Roosevelt.

From Williamsburg to Lexington

While I was in Williamsburg on a short visit with a relative, I decided to take a look around. I’m not much into historical sites and touristy prices, but Williamsburgs history was quite fasinating. My relative, my mothers sister, was too ill for me to stay at her home, so I found one of the better hotels Williamsburg as located downtown. The hotel wasn’t too far some historical sites, within walking distance to the Benjamin Powell House.

It was the highlight of the trip, to be perfectly honest. I got to dress up in colonial clothes and help make cornbread. Outside, if I wanted to, I could learn how to play hoops, but I preferred just to watch. Everyone was laughing and having a great time. Not too far from the Benjamin Powell House was the Gunsmith Shop, I really liked how the gunsmith wasn’t too into all the play acting just to please the tourist. He was pretty sullen, but watching him work, even though he made me feel like I was intruding, was fasinating. I could tell, the gunsmith didn’t find me fasinating, but I’m not one to budge when I find a point of interest. I noticed that he wouldn’t answer too many questions from all the tourist entering his shop and that they got offended, but I don’t blame him, I mean, having to deal with tourist day in and day out would absolutely drive me nuts.

I went to the Wigmaker’s Shop expecting the same type of attitude, but it was a completely different experience all together!  There was this man playing the wigmaker and he never dropped character. He amused us with the history of wigs, apparently the wig trend was started by a bald French King. And back then, a wig could cost as much as an acre of land! He told us, still in an amusing character, how much he disliked George Washington because for the longest time George refused to wear a wig.

Well, at least I got to experience some of Williamsburg and have a nice visit with my Aunt before it was time for me to finish my trip to visit my mom’s side of the family. I have cousins who come in dozens up in Kentucky.

Historical Buildings of Jackson

My recent stay in one of the downtown hotels Jackson, Mississippi was excellent due to a walking tour of the historical downtown buildings. I’m not much of an expert on architecture, but I do know what I like. So, being able to know the history behind each building, which by-the-way every one is beautiful, was extremely interesting, more interesting than I thought.

The first building on the tour was the Old Capital. The architect was William Nichols who was from England, then he moved to the States in the 19th century and was hired to be the states architect. The style he created was a Greek Revival. It was completed in 1840. So, in 1903 the state got a new Capital building and now this one is being used as the states historical museum. Our next stop was at City Hall. It’s style is known as an antebellum building. It was built in 1847 andsurvived the burning of Jackson. The building now has a new facade that replaced damaged done by the fires. A portico was added the 20′s. It still is being used as Jacksons City Hall an d houses the Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows Hall. As far as buildings go, I like this one better than the Old Capital building, because it fits in with a southern lifestyle, where the Greek, to me, does not.

The final building on the tour was the Mississippi Supreme Court Building. It’s currently under construction. I’m not sure why that would be put as last on a tour, because there wasn’t much to see. Maybe, it was for us to witness the begins of a creation that will be on tour hundred years from now, instead of imagining the construction of a building back in the 1800′s. Well, at least, that’s what I’ll make of it.

Birthdays in New York

I made New York my first stop on my trip because in needed to catch up with a very good friend who was celebrating his 30th birthday. I’ve been to New York several times, but this time I decided to do things that I haven’t done before, like shopping! I just love how the Euro to US dollar value and how I can purchase almost twice as much with the Euro. I only had so much time alotted in New York and I wanted to make the most of it.

I arrived in JFK without incident around 11:30am and my friend was working, so I had to make my way into the city somehow. I hadn’t had breakfast yet, so I decided to get the airtrain to Jamacia and the LIRR into Penn station because I was staying at one of the hotels New York USA and this would be quicker and less expensive than taking a Taxi, plus it was very easy to do. When I got to Penn Station, I headed straight for my hotel and checked in and got into my room, which was really very nice.

I had enough time before I have to meet my birthday boy, so, after I unpacked, I went the the Apple store. While I was on my way to the store, Adam (birthday boy) called to make sure I made it in alright and to confirm our meeting place tonight. I walked around Time Square and Fifth Avenue and made my way to Apple. I spent two whole hours browsing there and only ended up ipod. So, I made my way back to my hotel and chilled out for awhile and loaded up my new iPod.

Our meeting was in Tribeca, so I showered and changed clothes and headed to the nearest subway ( I really like riding the rails and people watching). When I met Adam, I’d forgotten just how handsome he is. Breathtaking, drop dead georgeous. Now, he can be my birthday present anytime.

Steven Barbarich and His Approach to Customer Service

It comes as no surprise that consumers nowadays can have a bit of apprehension when conducting business online.  E-commerce is the way to go, has been for some time.  Christmas shopping online takes the stress out of finding parking spaces, takes the stress out of dealing with crowds, and cuts down on the amount of the time spent looking through items that so many are looking through at the same time.  Online shopping takes care of all of that.  But, online shopping can make one wonder if they will really receive what they have paid for.

This was a concern for Steven Barbarich, and a concern well thought of, because he did not get what he paid for, and due to bad customer service,  found himself not compensated nor accommodated.  Years ago, he purchased a home spa online, and when it was delivered, not only could he not get it into his house, the customer service representative he called in reference to the misinformation regarding the size of the spa, really did nothing to help him.  When considering this himself, Barbarich decided that he could do much better, that he could run a company that produced and distributed high quality spas and jacuzzis, and also attend to the highest of standards with  regards to customer service.

Although spas are quite affordable these days, they are still a relatively high end purchase for many people, and Barbarich wanted to make sure that there was a an online company from which people could order products without the usual fear that accompanies a purchase of such kind without being able to physically see the purchase.  He wanted them to have a guarantee as to what they were buying and the information in which they were receiving.  Along with that, he takes pride now in a company that solves the customers issues and concerns, not one in which makes them all worse.  He learned a lesson through his dealings with poor customer service, and he used this lesson to help others.

Taking the Family to Charlotte, NC

Heading to North Carolina once again on business. All the traveling I have done there this will be the first time with the family. I have a few days of business and then a well deserved family vacation before we get back to the fall school schedule for us all. We booked accommodations at Charlotte luxury hotels so everyone would be happy. Central to everything close to where I need to be for business and close to shopping, resturaunts and museums for the family while I am working. When the work is done the vacationing for everyone will begin!

We are planning a spa day and pampering for the girls and on the same day a day of sports and sporting activities for the guys. Staying where we are we will be able to take advantage of several area attractions. Another day for the whole family at Six Flags Water Park where every one will be able to have a great time cooling off and enjoying a day in the water. Another day we will do some driving into the country side learning about some North Carolina history, seeing the scenery and exploring antique shops and the like.

We were able to arrange some activities for the kids though the hotel. This will give us the ability to get some much needed time for our selves and this will also give the kids the chance to interact with other children and have some time being independent from the parents.

All in all I think this will work out well. It is the first time we are planning a combined business and work trip together. With the kids being older and a little more independent this should work out very well and come just in time for the end of the summer and beginning of the school year.

Visiting Melbourne

Melbourne is a fun place to visit there is so much there. I really enjoy the wild life there. When visiting last I was able to to get to Philip Island wild life park where I was able to pet and feed a kangaroo, some geese, watched the koalas, had a lot of fun with the Cockatoos, cockerel and many other birds. I was absolutely amazed with all the colors on the Rosella parakeets. These birds are large for parakeets and apparently have more different colors on them than any other bird. They were so beautiful. After that I returned to my boutique hotel Melbourne for a nice dinner and a relaxing evening preparing for the next day. We would be doing some shopping and beach combing so indenting where we would go and what we would like to see was important for an efficient day of site seeing and shopping. Heading to the shopping district seemed a good start. We could probably find all the gifts and souvenirs we would want there and be able to fit more beach combing and site seeing in when that was done. Not a big fan of shopping i want this part to be as painless and efficient as possible so we can get on to more pleasurable pursuits. My mind was actually on the beach, i just want to spend a bunch of time on the water, near the water and looking for what the water washes up on the beach. Getting through the shopping process quickly and efficiently would be the best plan for getting to the beach sooner than latter. I mark out our route on the map, study it for the best possible routes and what would be the best way to get from one place to another and catch a site or two on the way. All in all a good plan is better than none, and flexibility to go with or away from the plan is important.

New York’s Longest Running Musical

Phantom of the Opera is one of Andrew Webber’s most famous musicals. It has had an extremely successful existence and is loved by audiences from around the world. It also has the distinction of being the longest running musical on the history of the Broadway stage. It is based on the novel by French writer Gaston Leroux and audiences are continually captivated by the tragic romantic quality as well as the beautiful music that are used to tell the story. Tourists will often stand in long lines to get New York Broadway tickets for major shows such as Phantom.

Webber’s musical is not the only adaptation to spring from the book, which itself was an interpretation, or extension of a serialization that had been published earlier. In 1925 it was made into a silent film and stared the major film actor Lon Chaney, Sr. Another film was made in 2004 that was based on Webber’s musical, and for which he served as producer. This film was directed by Joel Schumacher. Webber’s musical was first produced in London’s West End in 1986 and become the second longest running musical in the West End’s history. That first production was directed by Hal Prince. In 2008 the production surpassed its incredible 9,000 performance.

In January of 1998, Phantom opened at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway. Interestingly, it broke the record for longest running Broadway musical that was previously set by another of Webber’s productions, Cats. During its debut year it received by the Oliver and the Tony for Best Musical and the New York production has grossed over seven hundred fifteen million dollars. It ranks as the highest grossing entertainment venture on record. Amazingly, audiences never tire of seeing or listening to it and it is one of those blessed stories that the love and appreciation for it is not based on surprise in plot or ruined once it has been seen. This is true for many of Webber’s works, particularly Jesus Christ Superstar, for which most audiences should have known the full story in advance.

Creating the Southwestern Style with Next Day Blinds

The Southwestern style, is not confined to the Southwestern region of the United States. Homes in Chicago and Manhattan are decorated in the way as well. There is a cool feel to the colors and a crisp feel to the lines and design elements, such as those created at Next Day Blinds.  This is a rustic style of architecture and art, often times referred to as homey, earthy and primitive. The haciendas and the pueblos of the southwest offer much more than a house, for they are warm and embrace all those who come to visit. Many homes offer up quiet courtyards or gazebos, surrounded by bamboo blinds and gardens of the plants of the desert. There are often times open ramadas or fire places set in the middle of the outdoor patio.

Many choose to use the saltillo ceramic tiles or floors made of stone, as this serves to keep the home cool in the summer, as well as being the traditional flooring of the style of the Southwestern home. The warmth of the color of the tile adds to the overall warm feelings that one will experience in a home designed as such. And these too, are the perfect floors in which to place the bold and beautiful rugs that are crafted in this region.

The artists of the region tend to create works that reflect the desolate and lonely nature of life in the desert, and add to the overall peaceful feel of the home. A perfectly placed work of art, near a window covered by custom designs from Next Day Blinds, will be lit properly but without the worry of the sun damaging the painting. Often times the doors to these homes are massive and hand-carved, with elements of the earth such as steel and bronze used for the handles and the knockers. This look, or feel of the Southwest tends to grow on people, and it is no wonder why, when the elements of the earth are what is behind the decoration and the design that goes into the making of these homes.

Granada Surrealist Carlos Vega

Spain is a fantastic country with a fantastic array of luxury hotels. Granada offers some of Spain’s finest, with its rich history and geography complimenting the splendor of the accommodations. There are lots of choices for excellent lodgings here, and we’ve taken great care to select the hotels that have met, or even exceeded, our high standards. Chosen for their excellence in service, comfort, and style, you’ll be enjoying your visit to Spain in a class that is truly out of this world. You’ll love how we’ve merged innovation with tradition, with all the latest technologies and conveniences blended with the best of old world customs like hospitality and panache. Southern Spain has so much to offer the savviest of travelers, so why not enjoy it with the finest accommodations that life has to offer?

After a delicious sleep in our gorgeously-decorated rooms, enjoy a fine meal served by our world class chefs who are well-versed in local and international cooking techniques. Food and sleep can have wonderful restorative qualities, and you’ll be fit to enjoy all the adventures that Granada holds in store for you. There is an innate sense of luxury that permeates every aspect of island living generally, where activities are never all that active, and there is a pull toward daydreaming and contemplation. One of the best ways to get to a daydream here is by spending time close to the water, and looking at art. Spain has a long and vibrant tradition of visual art, and has produced some of the most stunning and gorgeous works of art in the world. In continuing this tradition, the next generation of Spanish artists is lead by Carlos Vega.

This Granada artist is now based in New York, where his work is attracting the attention of the international art scene. He is part of a new wave of artists from Granada who are entering the art market, at a time where it is a very unsteady place. For innovative temperaments such as Carlos Vega’s, this can be a very inspiring situation. The art world as such is a kind of blank slate, and when contemporary tastes are impossible to generalize, then the artists have freedom to make whatever they like. Carlos Vega is currently in a very interesting phase, using his previous surrealist tendencies for making new works of collage that use ephemera from the lives of others. This suggests a crossing over from biography into visual art, with an odd mix of irony, compassion, and deep humor.

Massage in New Delhi

Tensions dissolve as the expert hands of the Thai masseuses provide the much needed relief. I suddenly feel full of energy, rejuvenated and very carefree. This feeling is exactly how I should be feeling as I’m receiving a stress-release massage at one of the New Delhi four star hotels. After this, it will be time for me to receive a algae wrap. I’m taking a much needed break from my very stressful job. In fact, this is the kind of break which is kind of like a holiday in every sense of the word. It’s a time to take stock, to unwind and withdraw within. No shopping, no sightseeing, just relaxing.

Luckily, India has begun to offer many options and fortunately, many are now affordable. I’ve checked out place’s like the nature cure hospitals, these specialize in the Yogic Sciences and Naturopathy, or even Urlikanchan. I did spend some time at Jindal’s Institute of Naturopathy and was very impressed by its curative and intentional healing residential programmes. I could head to Kerala, which is full of Ayurvedic centers, or Kairali, which offers kayakalpa chikitsa and panchakarma. I might save up enough to leave the country and go to Badragaz, Switzerland for a few months or Bangkok, Thailand, both are also know for their spas and resorts,  but I like the spa where I’m at right now, being treated like a king.

I would like to visit some spa’s in the Himalaya’s for my next break, but I need to save up for that one. But, right now, I’m having such a lovely time in New Delhi and the only decisions that are giving me some troubles while I’m drinking my Golfer’s tonic, are which massage to sign up for next, the hot stone massage, a detox, or a holistic back massage. Then should I order the raw mango salad with or with out the cooked crab.

South Africa and Her Beaches

Visitors to the country of South Africa find themselves amidst the busy and cosmopolitan cities of Johannesburg and Capetown, amidst the artisans of the villages, and sometimes walking along some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Up and down the coast the beaches are perfect for those interested in surfing and snorkeling, or taking in the sun, and are dotting with many charming cottages and boutique hotels.  South Africa beaches also offer incredible opportunities for hiking along the coasts and outdoor adventure.

The experiences vary depending on which area one visits.  Some very wonderful beaches are located along the Eastern Cape,  including two of the most famous in the country for surfing, East London and Port Elizabeth.  While Wild coast beach is know for craggy cliffs perfect for rock climbing.  Some of the beaches are more developed and populated than others so there is the perfect environment available to every one’s desire.  One that is relatively undeveloped and offers miles of tropical landscapes and calm waters perfect for swimming is Port Saint John’s.  The lagoon is perfect for younger children or for those who are not strong swimmers.

The bay of Port Elizabeth also offers the calmer waters, as the Algoa Bay protects the coast from the harsher waves of the ocean.  There is however, opportunity for some surfing, just right for those who are just learning the sport.  Near by are animal refuges wherein one can take a  walk through a snake park, or watch dolphin and whales at the nearby oceanarium.  Like many of the Southern California Beaches, East London in South Africa is laid back.  There are outcrops of rock in which to walk on, great views and stretches of dunes.  South Beach, located in the town of Durban is famous for the Golden Mile.  This is a little more of a populated beach with artists hawking their wares such as baskets, bead work and other such handicrafts.  Just nearby is the largest marine park in Africa, uShaka Marine World.   Any of the beaches will offer fun in the sun, and much more.

Beach in Mumbai India

“Let’s go to the beach. We can eat corn on the cob,” Liza said, covering herself in sunblock, our room in the one of the hotels Mumbai India prides itself on filling with smell of the coconut smell of her sunblock. We were just getting ready to go and I offered to put the sunscreen on her myself but just rolled her eyes, and she was right, we needed to go out. The day before had been a general strike for something and we advised to stay in, so we drank Singapore Slings after we filed our report to the Agency about our bird watching activities of the day before that and sat on the roof to watch the day’s activities. We saw little evidence of a strike or any problems, the roads seemed just as crowded and chaotic as they usually were, and we snuck out for some Satay chicken at a nice nearby stall and bought a big platter of it from the woman with the gold teeth and blue fingernails. Her arms were thin as reeds and her her sari bright orange. We brought our yoga mats with us, hoping to join a yoga session, neither of us having done so in India, the cradle of the art, and we both thought we would get our butts kicked by the lithe Indians who have been practicing these movement for thousand of years. We were hungry and it was starting to be late in the day and we grabbed a rice crisp covered in chutney with fried whole wheat bread. There were dogs on the surprisingly clean beach in the suburban region of Juhu , and we never thought of India and beaches together in the same thought, but Mumbai is sort of an peninsula and there is water everywhere.

Majorca, Spain

Majorca is replete with natural beauty, nature abounds all around. You will have not have any difficulty here in Majorca if your aim is to have a great time in good weather and to practice sports in a natural setting as well as explore the island without following in the steps of the traditional tourist routes. The best plan is to travel the more rural areas of the island of Majorca by foot or on a bicycle. The island has hidden valleys, mountains and plains you will pass through until you come to the villages in the interior sections of the island. There are places for viewing in the mountain ranges of the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains, they are in the northwest part of the island. There is also the Mondragó Nature Reserve , in the south portion of the island. Here you can hear the roar of the waves against the cliffs. A very relaxing experience so plan plenty of time to absorb the beauty and relaxing energy there.  There are many different routes and paths to explore all offering beautiful views and vistas and lush greenery on the mountain sides. While in Majorca the 5 star hotel Majorca are a great place to eat, relax and plan you next adventure. Most days are sunny and warm the weather is very consist ant here. Hanging at the beach is great any time of the year. Swimming, laying in the sun or combing the beach are fun ways to pass the time of day. Majorca has a magnificent cathedral with views of the bay worth a stop for the view. There are an abundance of exclusive shops for your shopping pleasure along the Calle Unio and Avenida Jaume III. The sun, the beaches, the natural beauty the shopping you can find it all here.

History and Food in Manila

“Hey, let’s be quiet, we’re at the shrine to Rizal,” said Lindsay as we walked through old Intramuros after desk at the Hotel Manila Philippines suggested it. “He was executed here by the Spanish in 1896.” Lindsay had a head for trivia, you want her on your team for Trivial Pursuit. We had slowed down and come to find out that Rizal was Dr. Jose Rizal, who was imprisoned here too. He was quite an intellectual, and as artist, and wrote Mi Ultimo Adios, his last farewell, to his family, found after his death. We continued on the rest of the fort, a kind of European walled city built in the 16Th century, that once encompassed schools, churches an occupied palace. This place is huge. We left and had to get some food, of course. All that history makes you hungry. Lindsay and I discussed the long colonial history of the Philippines on our way to the great Salcedo Market, where stalls sell everything from fish alive to all kinds of delicious street food. WE found one place that had prawns cooked with the milk of coconut, fresh ginger and it was delicious. We hoped later that day to get some lechon, the famous pork dish, and it is said onne can order a whole suckling pig. Talk about a pig out. We wondered too about dim sum since there are a lot of Chinese here in the Phillippines. then of course there are the Spanish restaurants and their Paella and tapas. We really enjoyed the open air market, a parking lot all blocked off. We wandered around the market, taking in the smells and textures of this vibrant country and decided the best thing to do after our adventures was to hole up and have a beer.
